Three Sisters Tweed Fabric - Aurora
Sold by the quarter meter (0.25m)
Designed by myself and handwoven on our 80 year old hattersley loom by my sister. This lambswool Tweed is much softer than our Harris yarn tweeds with a beautiful drape. Inspired by the colours of the aurora, a medly of pinks, greens, purples and navy with hints of turquoise. Every wrap, while making the warp, has to have colours swopped on the cones to create the endless colour changes across the width. Warped using just six cones to create the depth of colour just like the real aurora, it takes over six hours just to create the warp. The entire set up to get ready to weave takes nearly two days. To weave this design Martha continually changes the pirn colours to get the dancing lights effect in the weft. Taking twice as long as our regular tweeds to weave she changes the colours by eye so there are no set pattern repeats, every section is subtly different. A truly unique, spectacular, statement tweed
